1 Attachment(s)
Hello, my father and I have just brought an in registered bedford tk for restoration. We have no history at all so hoping maybe someone can help us out and shed some light when she was made tonnage, engine size ect. I'm new to this but I'll try post a pic of the vin plate.
Any help would be gratefully received.

KFLC5 - so quite an old vehicle - though supplied to the Government it seems, so maybe stored for many years.

Later vehicles had EJM type chassis numbers.

K=TK
F=GVW range probably 11 or 12 tons GVW
L=Long wheelbase
C=Cab fitted
5=Engine (330 diesel or 300 petrol - I need to check, but you should be able to tell from the engine which it is!)

The 059 070 137 etc are production option codes - unfortunately I no longer have access to the list. Options would include wheels and tyre sizes, and maybe extras for the MOD contract. 207 would be the cab colour (khaki or RAF or RN blue).

WV might be the MOD order number . . .

KFLC5 13ft 11in wheelbase 7-tonner with Bedford 330 diesel engine.

That's 7 ton payload rather than gross weight, so 11 to 12 tons gross seems about right.

You might have a plate on the chassis (sometimes in the cab on the left wheelarch) that gives the allowable axle weights - but that was after vehicle plating was introduced - probably after your vehicle was built (I'm thinking mid 1960s for yours and late 1970s for plating).
