Fuel-cell bus.

http://www.thejournal.co.uk/business...-based-7593788

The fuel-cell was much talked about more than 40 years ago . . .
(and how it would revolutionise vehicular transport)

It seems though that it is much older:-

The stumbling block seems to be how to produce hydrogen economically.

To a certain extent I feel the same about vehicles that rely on electricity from the mains which has to be stored in batteries before being used to power the wheels.
Unless you have a source of 'green' electricity (such as hydro) I don't believe that the sums add up.

We need to know 'whole life' costs (likewise for nuclear power) before we commit.

I can, however, see the benefit of hybrid power for city use to reduce pollution.
