    Hi there,

I just wanted to wish you guys all the very best for Xmas and happy and safe new year.
As I type this I know you haven’t woken up to Xmas, but I can tell you we have a beauty.
I walked on the beach this morning with the 2 dogs and at 9am it was already quite crowded with people setting up BBQ’s and Xmas picnics. It is about 23 degrees and sunny, 2 to 3 knots on shore breeze and the pohutukawa’s (NZ’s Xmas tree) are in full bloom, and frankly, you couldn’t ask for more.
I am now just waiting for the cook to serve while I patiently wait, with a red in hand!.

All the best guys, look forward to another years photos and repartee.

    Mike

    Hi Mike:
No you've not upset me at all, in a way Leyland set the wheels turning for badge engineering, by selling a more superiour product and passing it off as their own, which we know it wasn't, a bit like the E.R.F you posted recently, as much as I enjoyed driving them they were just E.R.F badged M.A.N's. Don't ask what started me on the AEC road, I can in all honestly not tell you. But I do know far more about the marque than any other, and buy book's if I'm able. An owner of a classic AEC in the UK is not able to tax an AEC as an AEC, it has to be taxed as a Leyland AEC, which is wrong really as up untill 1962 they were a seperate company in their own right. No mate nothing wrong with a good debate, a lot of people can't and won't hold their heads above water during one, and of course I have a partner in crime in the form of Chris Coastie, who also helps me as I do him on another forum, so you keep posting your brilliant pictures.

    All the best,

    Andy.

    Gidday Mr Tomcat,

Hope I haven't upset you with all our banter re AEC V Leyland.
I have to admit there is nothing like a bit of a wind-up.
But seriously the whole is a nightmare if you are an historian, I'd hate to unravel it.
Thinking back, I actually can't ever remember AEC actually being sold in NZ. Back then there were no Jappers, very very few Yanks, the odd Volvo or Merc, it was all British.
I do recall when the Ergo cabs first arrived here there, they looked so modern, like space age, after what had gone before, and I do recall you only ever heard them referred to as Leyland Ergomatics. I have no photos, but that does stick in my mind.
Obviously they must have decided that Leyland was the known brand

I can understand your annoyance at what's gone on, I get just as annoyed at the way the current owners just discarded ERF and Foden.
All my grandparents came form England so to me these trucks are part of my heritage also. And it makes me mad.

    Rgds/Mike
