When I was on shift it was a common practice to use a bus to go and collect any workmates from home if for any reason they did not have their own transport to get to work in. I don't know what the inspector would have made of that, plus all the other things that went on. Things such as running the wife and kids home after a days shopping. The best one was I think was using a bus to take one of the engineers and his wife to the airport when they went on holiday. Not that I would ever dream of doing such things of course, it was the others.

Only if you get caught, a good employer who had come up through the ranks themselves knew it was often better to turn a blind eye to some of things that went on.
