Whilst not condoning their behaviour, jail does seem a little extreme. Especially, as we are constantly being told that they are overcrowded. I would have thought there could've been a more meaningful punishment. How about, clearing drains and ditches, unpaid, to try and prevent more flooding?
How many times have you driven past miles of overhead signs, on the motorway network, warning of "pedestrians/animals/debris in the road", followed by END and seen no reason for it? Diverted Traffic signs left in place, weeks after the diversion has been lifted. Seeing the signs, regularly, and not having a problem could lead to a lowering of expectations. Complacency then starts to creep in and, (serious) errors of judgement are made. It's easy for the Courts to have 20/20 hindsight, when they KNOW what the outcome was. |
