Very interesting photo indeed!

The caption should read: you're gonna need summit a big bigger than that to get her out sonny!
The AA patrol man third from left is my great grandfather, busting an interestingly stuck truck, believed to be late 1930s.
Very intrigued that both vehicles are Mercedes? If any one has any ideas I'd love to find out more about them. In the meantime, enjoy!

Wonder what they were trying to do that they went over the footpath and into someone's garden. Doesn't look wintry - can't see any snow or ice.

Backwards runaway, having missed a gear (quite a common occurrence on crash boxes).

VSC registration issued by Edinburgh between March 1960 and July 1960.

I am somewhat surprised by the date - the lack of a tarmac surface on the road would suggest much earlier, and the style of dress is more 1940s (or even earlier) IMO.
The lady on the right could be 1920s.

Maybe I am misreading the registration?

VS registration issued by Greenock from January 1903 to December 1959.

V registration issued by Lanarkshire from January 1904 to July 1922.

Being Mercedes trucks would suggest that the 1960 date is wrong, and a 1930s (pre War) more likely.

Any ideas of where? Can the registration of the smaller vehicle be read?

Rolling back down the hill were my thoughts too. Looking closer at the reg. it appears to be V5268, which is more consistent. Although still difficult to place. The other vehicle has a YY prefix which was issued in London in 1932.
As for where, Surrey/London boarder would be about right given where my great grandfather was from.
Still would have expected to see a British made truck though...

1932 Mercedes Benz diesel Lo 2000:- https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...32-Lo_2000.jpg

The big one looks to me like a L6500, which was introduced in 1935.
The square (wooden?) cab was replaced by a smoother metal cab in 1938.

https://translate.google.co.uk/trans...00&prev=search

Though the L6500 was only two axle - the L10000 was three axle and produced from 1935 to 1938/9.

There was also a 6x4 L8500 produced from 1932 to 1934 and from 1934 to 1936 (which was derived from the N56 - 1930 to 1932).
The 1934 to 1936 L8500 had a 150HP engine instead of the 120HP of the earlier version.

See:- Mercedes-Benz vehicles 1926 to 1944.
