Bedford TK gauge problems
Morning all.
New to the forum and first post - and of course it's asking for help. Me and a couple of mates own a '66 Bedford TK and it's in pretty good nick having been well restored a few years ago. However, there are a few niggles. The fuel and temperature gauges resolutely read zero. While it may be that both sender units are duff, as the gauges are linked with a common power lead, we want to eliminate other possibilities before we start dismantling. We've checked the wiring continuity and it seems to be OK. The wiring in the instrument binnacle is good and all connections are sound with a decent 12v supply to the fuel gauge. At the fuel tank, shorting the green/black lead to earth induces a flicker on the temperature gauge, but that's it. Anyone got any ideas? Also, how do you get access to the temperature sender unit? Many thanks PS We also have a '47 M-Type tipper and old three buses, so I'm sure this won't be the last post! |

Does it feed the gauges through a common regulator? They are quite known for failing.

Thanks Myles - we tracked it down to that. Not the regulator, but the common power lead across the two gauges in the binnacle was wired incorrectly. However, not the temp gauge reads just above 'C' and the fuel gauge reads Full all the time.
We've sourced a temp sender unit. but can't find a small-tank fuel sender unit for a '66 TK for love nor money. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks |

May have to adapt something else. Any pictures of the unit? I wonder if it is similar to other TK units (which you can usually get on eBay). It's almost bound to be a common Lucas (or Delco) part.
Could try here - lot of very knowledgeable folk https://www.facebook.com/groups/1198517853610561
